Why is my Etsy listing not showing up in search?

Start with the cheap checks. Most missing listings are expired, searched for with the wrong words, or buried on page four rather than gone. The checklist below goes from the quickest fix to the slowest.

1. Make sure it is really missing

Your own searches are shaped by your history, and Etsy shows about 64 results a page. Open a private window, search the exact phrase a buyer would type, and scroll through three pages. Count organic results only; results marked "Ad" are paid slots. The rank checker guide covers this step in detail. If the listing sits on page three, it is not hidden. It is losing to the listings above it, and the rest of this list explains why.

2. Check the listing's status

An Etsy listing expires after four months unless it renews. Expired, sold-out, inactive and draft listings do not appear in search. In Shop Manager, open Listings and change the status filter to Expired or Inactive. Etsy's help page "How to Find a Missing Listing" walks through each status. Renewing costs $0.20.

3. Check the words

Etsy matches your tags, and the words in your title, against what buyers type. A listing can only show for words it contains in some form.

To see which words the listings above yours use, open the top few organic results for your keyword and read their titles and tags.

4. Meet Etsy's listing quality rules

Etsy publishes the requirements an active listing must meet for "a chance to receive priority placement" in search. From its search visibility help page:

The Etsy search visibility page in Shop Manager lists the listings that fall short and what to change. After a fix, Etsy says the warning usually disappears within 24 hours.

5. Check the shop, not only the listing

Etsy also weighs the shop. A shop without a logo can lose visibility. So can slow replies to buyer messages, late shipping or shipping without tracking, a low review score, or many cases opened against the shop. Etsy's Customer service stats page shows where the shop stands.

6. Compare the price with the page

Etsy does not publish price as a ranking rule, but buyers compare prices on the results page. If the top ten results for your keyword sell between $18 and $30 and yours costs $65, buyers will scroll past it. Fewer clicks and sales for that search follow. Look at the middle half of the prices on page one. Then decide whether your listing should explain its higher price in the photos and title, or target a keyword where it fits.

7. Give changes time, and measure them

Change one thing, then check the rank for the same keyword over the following days. Checking again an hour later tells you little. Positions move with the buyer's location, Etsy's tests and the ads around them, so a single reading can mislead. Several readings for one keyword show the trend.

How Listrank helps with this checklist

On any Etsy listing page, Listrank compares your title, price and reviews with the top ten results for your keyword and shows each gap with the numbers. It checks your rank across the first three pages, separates organic results from ads, and keeps a history per keyword, so step 7 happens without a spreadsheet. On Etsy search pages, every result gets a label with its organic position or ad slot.

Find out where your listing ranks

Listrank checks your rank across three pages and compares your listing with the top ten. The free plan includes 3 rank checks a day.
